Our Farmstead Is Our Homestead

A farmstead refers to the central hub of a farming operation, encompassing the farmhouse and the immediate outbuildings. A homestead is a house and surrounding land. Together they are all of the things that allow us to strive for a more sustainable lifestyle. Growing and preserving food - both plant and animal - is a core focus. Call it subsistence agriculture.

It is our farmhouse, barn, workshop, sheds, chicken coop, greenhouse, gardens, and more.

Farming reflects the traditions and practices of our parents and grandparents and is the root of some of our fondest memories. It is our soul.

It promotes simplicity and self-sufficiency and independence. These things bring us a sense of peace and contentment.

By teaching our children and grandchildren the skills and values we have learned from farming, we leave with them a legacy of self-reliance.

It is our way of loving each other, our family, and our community.
